We’re nearing the end of our opening tour of Bakersfield locations featured in the beginning of the book. Next week we’ll start telling our story but not before visiting this desolate warehouse location which is featured prominently in the climax of Bakersfield, Earth.
I searched Google Maps high and low for a real warehouse location in Bakersfield on which to base this location, but came up empty. So I crafted this fictional location from a variety of different sources. After I was finished, I realized it looks a lot like the old warehouses that are common in downtown Wichita, Kansas where I’m from. Left over from a previous, more industrial past, these warehouse were popular in more rural areas where agriculture and manufacturing were once thriving industries; just one more example of my enthusiasm for leftovers from our past.
