The Marmot Guardians

What do Marmots do exactly, besides look adorable? Well, what do you do? What purpose do you serve? Those existential questions are asked in this episode of HUMAN ELEMENTS, a conservation science series created by producer Sarah Hoffman.

I had the pleasure of editing the first half of the latest season and Sarah and I dug deep to draw out the extreme empathy and dogged determination of a group of scientists on Vancouver Island who are determined to rehabilitate the native Marmot population there.

Sarah and videographer Bryce Yukio Adolphson literally climbed mountains to gather the verité footage required to tell this complex and empathetic story. Sarah and I went through countless edits, constantly refining the story and drawing out the emotional moments as well as the thrilling adventure. Who knew saving Marmots could be so exciting?
