Film Instructor

I teach Narrative Filmmaking and Video Editing classes at Northwest Film Forum, a non-profit film and arts center located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle.

My Narrative Filmmaking class is a comprehensive filmmaking experience for my students that is based on my first year of UCLA’s MFA film program. I write an original comedy sketch that we produce in-class over an eight week period, including script analysis, lighting & camera instruction, set protocol, auditions, production and editing. At the last class, students present their own edit of the scene.

Students who want to dig deeper into post production can take my Video Editing For Narrative Film class that uses footage from past Narrative Filmmaking classes and includes more individualized instruction and one-on-one tutorials as well as introductions to sound design, titles, music editing and color “timing”.

Other groups and institutions I’ve taught for include:

  • Blanket Fort Films Motion Picture Community Education Program (2017, 2018)

  • Reel Queer Youth Seattle & Tacoma - Three Dollar Bill Cinema

  • New York Film Academy - Los Angeles. Summer High School & Adult Programs
